Arts of the Kingdom: An Exhibition of Masterpieces of the Rattanakosin Era
Standing prominently at the end of Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue near the Royal Plaza, within Dusit Palace in Bangkok, the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall was constructed in Western style 100 years ago by Italian architects and engineers, using marble. The Western style of architecture is blended with intricate Thai furnishings and topped with domes. The domes’ interiors feature fresco murals created by Galileo Chini, an Italian artist. The paintings are depictions of the first six kings of the Royal House of Chakri.

A Folk Game in Central Thailand

Originally, thai na, or plowing, had been a folk game in the central region before it spread to other regions of the country. This game was an imitation of the daily life of local villagers in connection with farming. Evidence shows that thai na began in the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), and it was often played during celebrative occasions, sport competitions, merry-making events, and various festivals. The game was popular among young men since it required a lot of strength in the arms and shoulders.
